On June 21 (Wed.), third-year junior high school students from Aichi Prefectural Toyohashi Special Needs School visited the Interaction and Communication Design Laboratory (Prof. Michio Okada) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of TUT to see <"weak" robots >.
Toyohashi Special Needs School is a special needs school for children with physical disabilities, and this was the first time for us to host the students.
During the visit to the <"weak" robots >, the students listened to explanations by Prof. Okada and students of the laboratory about the robots displayed in the laboratory one by one and had a hands-on experience with them.
Everyone was nervous at first, but as they touched the robots, their nervousness melted away and smiles were seen on their faces.
After visiting the robots, the students experienced the school cafeteria, buying meal tickets, etc. They were happy to have this experience, which is not usually possible for them.
Later, we received handmade thank-you letters from the students who visited the school along with a thank-you letter from Toyohashi Special Needs School.
