9月24日に2020年度大学院修了式・学位記授与式を挙行しました。
　今年度の修了式・学位記授与式は新型コロナウイルス感染症感染及び感染拡大防止のため、会場を広くとり出席者を密にしない等様々な配慮をしたうえで執り行われました。
　授与式では、寺嶋学長から学位記（博士後期課程6名，博士前期課程19名）が授与されました。
　寺嶋学長からの式辞は次のとおりです。

I would like to congratulate all of you for the successful completion of your program at the Graduate School of Toyohashi University of Technology.

I understand that you spent a lot of time and made tremendous effort to accomplish your research in your program. This is the day when you feel it has been rewarded. But, at the same time, we have to keep in mind that the graduation is a new start for your next challenge.

You learnt and absorbed a lot of knowledge in this university. Some were taught in lectures or textbooks. They are important of course, because you learnt the systematic structure of the knowledge in an accumulated form based upon historical development of your study fields.
Moreover, the knowledge newly gained by your own research is indispensable, because it is original and has a lot of possibility to create many new things which may be useful in the society.

Of course, you may think it is not enough to obtain knowledge through research conducted for master's or even doctoral theses. That is true particularly in this scientifically well-developed modern society
But you learnt in this university the methods of research, that is, how to conduct your scientific research. This is your true asset. You may apply the methods which you have been learning here to whatever subjects face you in the future. Whatever problems, whatever questions you have in the future, you can apply the scientific methodology for finding answers to them.

Therefore, I would like you to understand the scientific degrees granted to you today is not the goal of your carrier but its start. I hope that all of you will improve your scientific and technological ability further and contribute to the society.

By the way, unfortunately, we have encountered covid-19 infection all over the world from this spring until now. We are fighting the new Coronavirus every day. Due to globalization, the virus instantly spread everywhere in the world. Now that the activities of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are becoming active, human beings should focus on Coronavirus countermeasures from their respective standpoints. What can you do now? Please think deeply for yourself. We humans are at stake now, but we can turn it into a chance. For example, during the Coronavirus period, the use of Information Technology(IT) progresses rapidly, making our lives more convenient. Discover more new things that you wouldn't normally find. Consider technologies for applying Coronavirus protection measures. It's a good chance for you. Because your technology can be dedicated to everyone, not just you. Take pride in your TUT students and contribute to the world of the present and future.

I would like to extend also my congratulatory message to your family members. Without their supports and encouragement, this graduation day would never come to you. Therefore, today's celebration should be shared with the graduates and your families.

When you return to your home country, tell your family, friends, and people in your country about the Japanese people and various things about Japan. Please tell us all the good and bad things that impressed you, including strange Japanese people and bad Japanese customs. I hope the people of your country will be interested in Japan. Then we are very happy.

Finally, I would like to thank the instructors of the graduates.
