久保田　剛司（くぼた　つよし）

こんにちは、豊橋技術科学大学弓道部部長、久保田剛司です。

私たち弓道部は「弓道を楽しむ」ことをモットーに、部員それぞれが、自分の力量にあった目標を立てて日々の練習に取り組んでいます。

弓道部では毎年いくつかのイベントに参加していますが、中でも重きを置いているものに夏季合宿と東海地区国立大学体育大会があります。

大学の夏季休業中に行う合宿では県外まで遠征に行き、練習は真剣に行いつつも、レクリエーションとして普段の近的競技とは異なる遠的競技や、模擬試合を行い、部全体のレベルの底上げを図っています。技科大に入学してから弓道を始めた部員は、ここで弓道の立ち振る舞いについて詳しく学び、ただ弓を引くだけではない弓道の奥深さに触れることで、より弓道が好きになります。

また、通称東国体と呼ばれる東海地区国立大学体育大会は、東海地区の8つの国立大学が参加する体育競技大会で、豊橋技科大弓道部は毎年参加しています。昨年の東国体では、男子団体トーナメント第一回戦で48射30中と悪くない的中率だったのですが、2中差で惜しくも初戦敗退となってしまいました。女子団体はリーグ戦で、一人48射という体力勝負となり、大変悔しい結果となりました。今年は昨年の雪辱を果たすべく、いつも以上に熱の入った練習をしています。

愛知県は全国的に見ても弓道が盛んな県で、豊橋市営の弓道場へ行くと高段位の先生に指導をしていただけ、また地域規模での交流もあり、恵まれた環境で弓道ができます。

私たちは現在、野依八幡社内の弓道場で練習を行っていますが、建築サークルと共同で学内弓道場の建設も計画しており、よりよい練習環境の構築に努めています。

これからも弓に携わる者として、また人としても成長できるように、活発に活動していきます。

こんにちは。吹奏楽団団長の笠井志信と申します。

私たち吹奏楽団は「地域に根ざす楽団」をモットーに、毎年10月に開催している定期演奏会を主に年間およそ8回のイベント演奏、訪問演奏を行っています。練習は週に3回です。学生の本分はもちろん学ぶことですが、授業や研究のみに没頭するのではなく、音楽とふれあい、音楽を通してさまざまな人や考えにふれあうことで、視野が広がりより豊かな人間性を磨くことができます。さらに、今年は年間のスローガンとして「Have fun」を掲げています。演奏を聴いてくださるお客様に楽しんでいただくには、まず、自分たちが楽しむことが大切だという考えで、イベントの大小に関わらず奏者とお客様が一体となって音楽を楽しめるような演奏を目指しています。

私たちの楽団では、学部3年次後期から学部4年次前期までの間、運営を担当し、10月の定期演奏会を機に下の代へ運営を交代します。私たちの大学は大学院生が多いため、団員の院生の割合も高くなっています。

下は学部1年次から上は大学院博士後期課程までの幅広い団員達が円滑に活動できるようにまとめあげることは、大変で難しいものですが、日々やりがいを感じ、お互い協力し、楽団の運営を行っています。

現在は10月4日に開催予定の第31回定期演奏会に向けて、日々練習に取り組んでいます。ご来場くださる全てのお客様に楽しんでいただけるよう、様々なステージをご用意しておりますので、ぜひ聴きにいらしてください。

I am one of those lucky people who come to Japan and study in an outstanding university. When someone visits a foreign country, there are many new things which we might have heard or seen in videos or news. However we cannot imagine them in our real life because we are not a part of that environment. May be I am not allowed to use enough space to write my experiences about Japan and the life in Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT) but I would summarize a few of them.

I study in the Mechanical department of engineering and my research is based on Thermoacoustics. I am very impressed because the supervisor gives a very friendly environment to study and research. The gap between a teacher and a student is very close and the students feel very comfortable to study in a flexible environment. Beside the studies, the supervisors arrange BBQ and "Nomikai" parties in order to get closer to the students.

In TUT, the new international students are encouraged to participate in a welcome party where they can see other students and staff for the first time and get a good opportunity to communicate with them. Each office is working well for the students but for us there is an "international affairs division". It doesn't matter if we can speak Japanese or not, but they solve our problems. I appreciate the cooperation of the staff for working hard to support international students.

International students don't face a hard time because TUT provides new students with special dormitories for one year where they can stay by paying a small rent. I am living in a couple room with my wife and I guess I have never spent such a comfortable time in my life. We have each and every facility in our room.

As most of the international students in TUT are Muslims, so TUT provides special consideration for them. The most important thing is that TUT provides Halal menu in the canteen for Muslims. It saves the time for them to cook at their home or bring with them.

Health is a gift from God and to take care of our health TUT provides us a facility of GYM and sports grounds. There is a sports week once a year which is of course a fun but the purpose is to encourage us for sports activities.

Besides the study and research, there are also some recreational gatherings and events. One of such events is known as "World tea festival" in which international and Japanese students of TUT takes part to serve tea and some other special food items of their own country. Also there are stage performances in which international and Japanese students take part. There is also another grand festival which known as "Gikadai sai". This event is for three days from morning till evening. It's great refreshment with a lot of stage performances and also we can see the popular comedians of Japan on stage. Foods from many countries are also served.

In addition TUT arranges a two-day study trip to Kyoto. This trip is also a fun to see the historical city but the most important is that the international students get closer and communicate with each other.

Not only from inside of the university but there are many associations outside the university working for the welfare of international students. They invite international students for many recreational activities like hiking, fishing, homestay, BBQ, study trips, industrial visits and many more.

The university guides us for job hunting by arranging job hunting programs. Also every year many companies come to our university to recruit international students to give them a chance.

In the last I will summarize the topic with a few words that TUT is such a university which provides education, scholarships, health facilities, study trips, guidelines for jobs, events and student gatherings. I feel very lucky being a student of TUT and feel proud. I have no words to say thanks to the staffs for their cooperation.
