Research
Eco-friendly secondary batteries with highly performance are needed for achieving the construction of smart grids and for solving problems such as depletion and pollution. Additionally, highly efficient electrical energy generation, conversion, and storage technology are needed utilizing their batteries. In order to address the problems, we have performed on a research of new secondary batteries promising excellent characteristics with low cost, high safety and high performance, conducting a research on energy management systems that combine various secondary batteries with solar cells.
Theme1:Development of Renewable Energy Management Systems
Overview
Electrical power generation from renewable energy including solar, wind, water, and geothermal power is the lower load than combustion generation of chemical fuels against environment. However, massive blackout is possible to occur in a huge area in the worst case because the generating amount of electricity depends on weather and season. To prevent blackout, adjustment of the amount is required constantly in response to their conditions. To balance surplus and deficient electrical power, we are developing an energy management system that combines different types of power sources and rechargeable batteries.

Theme2:Development of Electrode Materials for Photovoltaic Secondary Batteries
Overview

Solar cells generate electricity through solar light irradiation on the panels whereas they cannot store the generated electricity on their own, thereby combining rechargeable batteries to store the generated electricity. However, electrical energy loss extremely occurs on an energy transformation process from generation to storage of electricity due to multi energy transformation. Therefore, we are developing functional electrode materials that combines electrical generation with storage into a single battery.
