Theme1:Representation of the Beat Generation in American Comics
Overview
This study examines how the stereotypes of the Beat Generation have developed in America, specifically through American comics, since the 1950s. Above all, the non-conformist aspects in the Beat representations in relation to the consumer culture are focused on. This study shows an example of how elements of counterculture have survived in American popular culture since the 1950s. It will contribute to the argument about how the notion of a “counterculture” remains important and how consumer culture has attempted to exploit that counterculture.
