ICCEED held the 1st ICCEED Seminar 2014

International Cooperation Center for Engineering Education Development (ICCEED) held the 1st ICCEED Seminar titled "International Cooperation in Globalization Era -Role of University in International Cooperation-" on July 18th, 2014.

The seminar aims to identify and discuss the role of University in International Cooperation through the contribution of education and research outcomes. As globalization progress, cross-border cooperation has been increased and exposed global issues to be solved. Along with this incident, Japanese experience and technology of recovery from the WWII and high economic growth is expected to be applied for socio-economic development in developing countries.

We invited Ms. Keiko Sano, Deputy Director General, and Group Director for Higher Education and Social Security, Human Development Department, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA*).

She provided a lecture on "University in International Cooperation -Challenges and Vision-", and discussed about recent trends in international society, higher education, cooperation scheme of Japanese university and JICA, future vision of university-JICA cooperation.

Before Ms. Sano's lecture, Mr. Akira Shibuya, Associate Professor of ICCEED provided a lecture on activities and meaning of Toyohashi Tech international cooperation.

About 50 participants (including International and Japanese students, faculty and office staff) joined in the seminar and discussed informatively about the expectation for JICA activities, utilization of research equipment installed by JICA project, support for JICA scholars after they completed their study in Japan, utilize gained knowledge and skills in university for field of international cooperation.

*JICA: Japan International Cooperation Agency, the agency for nation-building and human resource development in over 150 developing countries through technical and financial assistance.
