robocon01.jpgOn Sunday June 10 in the large gymnasium at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center, the Toyohashi Robocons, a team comprised of members of the TUT Robocon Club, reached the quarterfinals of the NHK Robocon University Robot Contest, which doubled as the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest selection trial.
Although the team was unable to progress to the semifinals of the event, they secured a position among the top 8.

After progressing through the preliminaries to the quarterfinals, the Toyohashi Robocons were trying to recover after mechanical trouble when their rival managed to complete "Peng On Dai Gat."

In keeping with the theme of the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest, which is to be held in Hong Kong, this year's quest was Peng On Dai Gat, based on an ancient Hong Kong festival held to pursue peace and prosperity. The team whose robot reached the "island" at the end of the field, climbed the "bun tower" and snatched the lucky buns first within the allotted three minutes achieved Peng On Dai Gat and won the round.

Footage of the contest will be shown on NHK General from 17:00 on Sunday, July 1.
