The New Research Center for Collaborative Area Risk Management kicked off with a symposium

anpan03a20110801090711.jpgOn July 23rd 2011, a symposium entitled "Risk management and local disaster prevention" was held to kick off the "Research Center for Collaborative Area Risk Management" session at the Hotel Asocia Toyohashi. 150 people participated, mainly from the East Mikawa area.

The opening speech was addressed by President Yoshiyuki Sakaki, and the greeting of guests was carried out by Mr. Katsuya Kozakai, the Assistant Manager of the Department of Academic Institute at the Research Promotion Bureau, a Department of the MEXT.
After that, Mr. Shinichi Aoki , the Director of the Center and the Core Leaders of each of the research group explained the outlines of this Center, which was established in April 2011.  During the first half of the symposium, Professor Masuteru Murosaki of the Kansai Gakuin University gave a special lecture entitled, "Area Risk Management based on the experience in the Great Earthquake and the recovery".

carm_aoki.jpgIn the second half of the symposium, panel discussions on "Lowering of risk in an area" were conducted by panelists from various industries, the medical field, lifeline, agriculture and housing areas, together with commentators from Public Administrations. 
Each panelist pointed to major difficulties in disaster prevention during a wide-spread earthquake from the point of view of various business sectors. 
After the talks, energetic discussions took place, which included commentators and the audience of the symposium.
