Double-degree Program Partnership Formed with the University of Eastern Finland

11 Jan 2018

A double-degree program partnership was formed between the Doctoral Program of the Graduate School of Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Toyohashi University of Technology and the Doctoral Program of the School of Computing, Information Technology field, University of Eastern Finland.

The double-degree program is a program where students enter the Doctoral Program of the Graduate School of our university as well as the Doctoral Program of the University of Eastern Finland, receive education and research guidance for at least a year at each university, and then receive degrees from both universities after they have satisfied the requirements of each university. Students can receive degrees from two universities by studying for a minimum of two years. This program aims to teach sophisticated specialist knowledge to students and to foster individuals who can be active in the world with a global perspective. This program will begin with students entering the University of Eastern Finland in September of 2018.

The University of Eastern Finland has been praised inside Finland and around the world for its high technical strength and educational content. In particular, in regards to the field of optics (color science and engineering), their spectroscopic measurement technology is extremely advanced, and the university is recognized as the benchmark institute for spectroscopic measurement in Europe. Also, this university has world-class capabilities in the industrial applications of other engineering fields as well.

The first arrangement for exchange between our university and the University of Eastern Finland was established in 2002, and, since then, we have been proactively promoting the exchange of both students and faculty members. We expect that the future exchange of students between our universities will develop even further due to our entering into this double-degree partnership.
