The14th IGNITE Open Forum
15 Mar 2016

Japanese corporations that have bases throughout Asia need leaders who can take charge of local development and growth. Educating advanced engineers to become such leaders is an increasingly important issue.
Furthermore, Germany is sponsoring "Industry 4.0" in developing countries, and with increasing interest in the Internet of Things, the world of manufacturing is changing drastically.
When considering the topic of producing more human resources who can drive manufacturing forward, which should be a goal for Japan in the future, we must think about not only corporate in-house training, but also how universities can play a role, and what types of human resources will be needed.
The Japanese government has at times put forward the idea of the "Industrial Human Resource Training Support Initiative", which would provide training for 40,000 industrial employees in Asia over the course of three years. In coordination with this initiative, we will sponsor a forum for discussion between industry, government, and academia with the hope of taking practical steps forward, such as developing organizations that can train advanced industrial human resources in Asia.
