Toyohashi University of Technology is an engineering college
aimed at producing practical and creative engineers through provision of quality
education on fundamental science and engineering. The University offers eight engineering
majors (eight departments), each of which accepts about 50 students each year,
80% of whom are transferred to the third year of the undergraduate course from
technological colleges and the remaining 20% are graduates from academic and industrial
high schools. A particular feature of the Toyohashi University of Technology is
that it encourages all its undergraduate students to continue their studies in
master's programs with a view to developing highly skilled engineers. The University
operates on a trimester system. |

Toyohashi University of Technology believes that its mission
is to develop and deliver to society quality human resources in the field of engineering
who can respond flexibly and swiftly to the diversified and sophisticated demands
of today's society for highly skilled engineers, reflecting globalization and
shifts in basic industries. In order to achieve this mission, it is necessary
to ensure that students are given opportunities to gain practical experience in
dealing with tasks as an engineer/researcher in real work situations while still
in university, so that they can develop a sense of professionalism towards engineering
practice before entering the world of work. This is where the University's Internship
Program comes into play. The purpose of this university-industry collaborative
training program is to provide students with opportunities to gain practical experience
in industry through partnership with businesses and external institutions. In
addition, students who have completed this program can further develop their sense
of practical engineering that is backed up with scientific rationale by incorporating
what they have leaned through their internship experiences into their studies
and research in later graduate programs. The Internship Program Executive Committee,
consisting of one faculty member from each Department, has been set up to smoothly
carry out this program and ensure that it achieves its objectives. |
