25 promotion of industrial innovation. In promoting industry–academia–government collaboration, it provides comprehensive support from pre-award assistance in securing competitive domestic and international funding to post-award support after funding to post-award support for joint research, commissioned research, social implementation, and the entire process from the creation of intellectual property to rights acquisition and utilization. (3) Research Institute for Technological Innovation (RITI) To fully realize the founding philosophy of contributing to the development of human society by elucidating the scientific principles that support technological evolution, creating innovative technologies from those principles, solving pressing social issues, and creating new value that helps shape the future, the University established the Research Institute for Technological Innovation in FY2016 and has promoted mainly the following types of research: 1. More advanced and innovative research through strong collaboration with leading companies and top research institutions in Japan and abroad. 2. Value-creating, emerging, system-oriented research integrated with rapidly evolving artificial intelligence technologies. 3. Strategic research that cuts across the activities of the existing EIIRIS and four research centers, promoting and proposing research on social systems for problem solving. Initially, the organization consisted of EIIRIS, four research centers, and the Venture Business Laboratory (VBL). In FY2023, however, the Institute for Research on Next-Generation Semiconductors and Sensing Science (IRES²) was established. With semiconductors and sensing technologies as its core, and in order to promote interdisciplinary research with advanced fields such as robotics, information and communications, life sciences, agricultural engineering, disaster prevention, and next-generation mobility, EIIRIS was functionally strengthened and reorganized into an integrated research organization with four divisions: the Basic Research Division, the LSI Factory (integrated circuit prototyping facility), the Social Implementation Division, and the Strategic Management Division. In addition, of the four research centers, the Center for Human–Robot Symbiosis Research and the Research Center for Future Vehicle City were reorganized and now continue their activities within the Social Implementation Division of IRES². Furthermore, in FY2025, the Open Laboratory Building was established within IRES² as a hub where the University, industry, and local communities can jointly advance research, development, and technology implementation. Going forward, the University will promote the participation of a diverse range of companies and research institutions, while utilizing the facility as a venue for supporting regional industries, developing engineers, and fostering co-creation and innovation.
