Research

Our main research is fundamental study about a new catalyst material to carry out the chemical reaction in environment and the energy field and catalyst development which aims at reduction of the hazardous wastes.
In photocatalyst, we pursue the possibility to the catalyst of a silver halide with optical high photosensitivity. We are trying to overcome the problem of using silver halide as catalyst since it is used with the negative of a photograph, which is unsuitable as a catalyst.
It is widely known that reusing used polyvinyl chloride with the presence of the chlorine is difficult. We have succeeded in activating used polyvinyl chloride by using potassium hydroxide as active agent and removing residual chlorine. Also, we proposed that it can be used as compost even after disposal. We are developing the functionalization and the usage of this activated carbon.
Apart from that, we are also conducting fundamental study about functionalization of cerium oxide which is essential as a co-catalyst for automobile exhaust gas removal catalyst.

Theme1:Recycling of used polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

Overview

Dechlorination is necessary in order to recycle used polyvinyl chloride (PVC). However, chlorine still remains in the dechlorinated carbon residual substance, and in many cases this residual chlorine obstructs the recycling of carbon residual substance.
We have proposed the method of using potassium hydroxide as neutralizing and an active agent to produce activated carbon, and use it as a method of recycling this carbon residual substance.

Theme2:Development and quality assessment of co-catalyst for automobile three-way catalysts

Overview

Although the present automotive catalyst (gasoline-powered car) has reached the advanced field, development of the catalyst which acts under low temperature or high temperature is performed due to the reinforcement of exhaust gas regulation.
Among the group of co-catalyst, cerium oxide contributes to the expansion of the range called window, the performance?intensification is in demand and therefore this laboratory is performing production and evaluation of the cerium oxide related substance.

Theme3:Development of energy conversion catalyst using solar light

Overview

Although solar light is important for our life, plants occupy most of its usage. Scientifically, although there is solar power generation, the maximum efficiency is about 10%. Therefore, the search for further efficiency is being carried on.
We are developing inorganic substances which react without heat supply (therefore CO2 is not generated) but by chemical reaction using the energy of light.
