Theme1：Photonic Crystal Devices
Nano-Photonics certainly represents the future of on-chip data processing and communications as light signal intrinsically requires lower power and can carry faster and larger volume of information than electronic ones. Nevertheless, the miniaturization of Photonic circuits at the scale of the transistors and their integration remains challenging. Passive and Active devices made of Photonic Crystal (artificial material patterned into dielectrics and constraining the flow of light) offers the possibility to shrink the total footprint of optical components down to few microns. Therefore Photonic Crystal-based devices allow us to envision the on-chip integration of photonic technology.
