22 and Colleges of Technology for Securing Highly Specialized Information Technology Personnel (FY2024– FY2033). Under this project, in order to enable education and research in the University’s areas of strength—AI, sensors, robotics, and semiconductors—to be applied to interdisciplinary and cross-domain issues, the total admission capacity of the master’s programs in Electrical and Electronic Information Engineering and in Computer Science and Engineering has been increased by 27 students. Based on a solid undergraduate foundation in engineering, the University is strengthening its system for producing highly advanced professionals in information technology and semiconductors who can apply mathematical data science and semiconductor and sensor-related technologies to address pressing social issues in agriculture, energy, chemistry, health, and the environment. The University has promoted educational and research exchange with Colleges of Technology. For fourth- and fifth-year students in the regular programs and students in advanced courses at Colleges of Technology, it offers hands-on practical training. For transfer students, it has developed an educational pathway in coordination with the curricula of Colleges of Technology, from admission through study through graduate school and employment, advancement, ultimately preparing them to become leading engineers. It is also promoting the Advanced Fusion Technology Collaborative Education Program in cooperation with advanced courses at Colleges of Technology, aiming to foster professionals who can contribute to their regions. In addition, since FY2018, the University has implemented the Technological Science Teacher Program in the doctoral program to train future faculty members for Colleges of Technology, and graduates of this program have already gone on to become faculty members at such institutions. Under the MEXT Top Global University Project, “Creating a Campus for the Training of Global Technological Science Architects” (FY2014–FY2023), the University promoted fundamental reform toward globalization, including a global campus vision supported by bilingual lectures and the multinational residential environment of the Global House, as well as the training of “Global Technological Science Architects” capable of embodying multicultural coexistence. Building on this project, the University was selected for the Project to Support the Creation of Social Impact through University Internationalization, “Creating a Multicultural Collaborative Learning Campus to Foster Global Tech Innovators” (FY2024– FY2029). This project aims to create a collaborative learning campus based on three pillars that leverage the University’s strengths—“a collaborative learning campus for understanding the science of technology,” “a collaborative learning campus connected to the world,” and “a collaborative learning campus where learning is visible”—and to foster “Global Tech Innovators” equipped with the ability to create technological science, the ability for global co-creation, and inclusive leadership. In addition, through double-degree programs with the University of Stuttgart in Germany and the University of Eastern Finland, twinning programs with Universiti Sains Malaysia and the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and overseas practical training, the University has been implementing initiatives that connect Toyohashi with the world. The University has also launched the GIKADAI Program in Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Education, further advancing information-related education across the entire University. Aiming to establish a comprehensive educational environment that promotes the integration of data science into manufacturing technology, the University was selected as a cooperating institution in the nationwide initiative for mathematics and data science education at universities following evaluation by the MEXT Committee for the Promotion of Mathematics and Data Science Education at Universities. Through this initiative, the University fosters human resources capable of applying data science beyond science to manufacturing technology. Because of the global spread of COVID-19 from early 2020 onward, educational methods changed dramatically at the University, as at other universities. It became difficult to conduct face-to-face classes in lecture rooms, and traditional in-person classes were substantially restricted for several years, leading to the rapid expansion of online and on-demand education. Even after the COVID-19 pandemic subsided, education has continued to be delivered not only in the traditional face-to-face style but also in a blended format incorporating online and on-demand learning.
