The doctoral program had previously comprised three majors: Materials Systems Engineering, Systems Information Engineering, and Integrated Energy Engineering (established in 1987). In 1995, as shown in Table 2, it was reorganized into four majors: Mechanical and Structural Systems Engineering, Functional Materials Engineering, Electronics and Information Engineering, and Environmental and Life Engineering. In this way, organizational reform progressed in order to respond to the broadening and increasing sophistication of the fields of research. Table 2.
