「Higher Education in India and some facts about IITs」

India"s higher education system is the third largest in the world, next to the United States and China. India has 42 central universities, 275 state universities, 130 deemed universities, 90 private universities and 33 Institutes of National Importance, such as IITs. IITs are specifically geared towards technology based undergraduate education and have been globally acclaimed for their standard of education. The IITs enroll about 10000 undergraduate students annually and their alumni have contributed to the growth of science and technology not only in India but all over the world, notably USA. However, India still lacks internationally prestigious universities.
