The Research Center for Future Technology promotes advanced research projects at Toyohashi University of Technology (TUT). The Japanese government, foundations and companies provide funds for the research projects that can develop future technologies. The research projects are evaluated by outside experts and the research results are given intellectual property rights. These rights are then transferred to industry.
The research center supports distinguished junior researchers in developing future technology to improve the sustainability and quality of life. All research projects can rent a research room and arrange for equipment in the center. This center occupies three floors (18 rooms, 1,500 square meters) of the Laboratory Building for the Graduate School. Two visiting professors and two research assistants are assigned by the center.
22 research projects, including nine junior researcher's projects, are in progress as of March 2003-2007. 10 research projects were completed in the last five years. To create future technologies, the center plays an important role in researches and development as the TUT COE (Center Of Excellence).
