The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering focuses on how to improve our habitable spaces and preserve the natural environment. Hence, courses on architecture, civil engineering, and environmental engineering predominate in the curriculum. Courses deal with both the theoretical and practical aspects of Architecture and Civil Engineering

The department consists of three divisions:

(1) Planning and Design

(2) Environmental Engineering

(3) Structural Engineering

The Planning and Design Division is concerned with regional planning, architecture, and the history of architecture. The Environmental Engineering Division involves indoor climate and building services, water-and-wastewater engineering, air pollution control, hydraulics, and hydrology. The Structural Engineering Division encompasses structural mechanics, structural engineering, earthquake engineering, soil mechanics, and foundation engineering.
Instructors encourage discussion among students. Outside experts are often invited to give lectures and to lead discussions. Students are trained to design a variety of facilities and structures. They are also trained in the use of modern building materials. Moreover, they receive training on how to maintain and protect the environment. In addition, seminars and lectures on the socioeconomic aspects of regional planning are offered.
