Master's Program Given in English

Toyohashi University of Technology offers a special program conducted in English, which is open for overseas students seeking a degree in specific areas (Master's Degree in the engineering fields).

1. Admission Policy for Toyohashi University of Technology

Toyohashi University of Technology provides unique bachelor's, master's and doctoral courses in technology that are geared toward producing creative, practical-minded leaders in differing fields of technology, and the education received at our university also provides students with an appreciation of humanity, international perspectives and responsible coexistence with the environment. Our university is also at the forefront of conducting cutting-edge scientific research for the future.

The following suggests the type of student this university seeks to enrol:
(1) Those who have a respect for the environment and endeavour to contribute to local communities or to the world as a whole.
(2) Those who are ready to make significant achievements with a fundamental knowledge in technology or science at the university level.
(3) Those who take the initiative for their own education with the minds of being a pioneer in a new field of science or technology.

3. Qualifications for application

This program is open to those candidates who have no legal limitation or hindrance to be admitted to the University under "Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act" of Japan, and also to those pertaining to any of the following items from (1) to (4), and correspond to (5) and (6).

(1) Those who have completed 16 years of school education and/or those who have prospects to graduate before this program begins.
(2) Those who have been approved by the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology.
(3) Those who have been recognized by TUT Graduate School based on individual screening of qualifications as having equal academic abilities as a university graduate, and of an age not less than 22 before this program begins.
(4) The countries where the education for completion of university is less than 16 years, after graduated from a university, conducting work as a research student or a researcher at a University inside or outside Japan, joint research Institute for National Universities or the corresponding research institution for reasonable period (more than 1 year) and the age is above 22 before this program begins.
(5) Those who are healthy, both physically and mentally.
(6) Those who have English proficiency to keep up with the classes offered in this course. (TOEIC: 590, TOEFL(iBT): 61, TOEFL(PBT): 500, IELTS: 5.5 or above is recommendable.)

Note: Those who pertaining to above items of (3) or (4) are required the procedures for the screening of qualifications before application. For the procedures method, please inquire at International Affairs Division of the university.

4. Application procedure

I. Submission time:

a) Those applying for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship:
Due date: Friday, 3 February 2012

b) Privately-financed foreign students and other scholarship applicants:
First deadline: Friday, 3 February 2012
Second deadline: Thursday, 31 May, 2012

*Those applicant who was not selected as one of the candidates for Japanese Government Scholarship Students but wishes to take this program as a Privately-financed student does not need to submit the application again.

III. Application documents (All must be written in English)

*Applications will not be considered if any of them are incomplete, incorrect or untrue.

1) Application form for admission to the University [download]
Student him/herself must fill out the designated form.
Write the supervisor's name at TUT after obtaining his/her approval.
*Applicant for MEXT scholarship must submit all application for scholarship, too.

2) All application documents for Japanese Government (MEXT: Monbukagakusho) Schoalrship
Students wishing to apply for "Japanese Government Scholarship on the recommendation by the university" (for the first deadline only) shall attach the designated documents for scholarship application to the application for the admission, too[See details here].

3) Certificate of graduation or provisional certificate (Bachelor's degree)
It must be issued by the university the applicants graduates from (a diploma,
a graduation prospect, or a statement of a degree attained).
If you have graduated from schools other than universities, a document certifying
or describing that the school you graduated from is a formal higher education
institution must be attached.

4) Record of Academic Achievement (Transcripts)
Enclose the academic record issued by the applicant's last attended university.
In this record, information of both Grade Point Average (GPA) and
academic performance standing ( th / students)* are required.
*The rank of your academic record among the whole classes must be written.

5) Certified copies of certificates or transcripts of English test

Enclose the certificates or transcripts that shows applicants' English proficiency
(TOEIC: 590, TOEFL(iBT): 61, TOEFL(PBT): 500, IELTS: 5.5 or above is recommendable.).

6) Study plan in detail [download]
Write in English on a given form with approximately 1,000 words.

7) Letter of recommendation [download]
It must be issued by the Chairman of the department or the like of the university last attended.
Applicants working for a company must submit a recommendation letter issued by his/her supervisor.

8)Survey on financial condition [download]
Student him/herself must fill out the designated form.

9) ID Photo
The photo must be of upper body (above waist, 40mm x 30mm)
with no hats, and not older than 3 months prior to this application.
Attach the photo at designated place.
Applicant's name and nationality must be written on the backside.

10) Verification of degree and transcripts
*Only for the applicants who have graduated from Chinese universities.
Certificates (No. 3 and 4) issued by Chinese universities must be verified by China Academic Degree and Graduate Education Development Centre (CDGDC) with CDGDC's official verification (English verification is required). These verifications must be sent to Toyohashi University of Technology directly from CDGDC, within the above application deadline. (Toyohashi Tech's University Code: C901401)
In order to process, applicant him(her)self must submit certificates to CDGDC, and pay prescribed fees.
Reminder: it takes about 1 month to be delivered the verification to the university.
Applicant must submit the document which shows the date you applied for the verification when you submit the application documents for admission.


<Note>

1. Please do not staple the documents.
2. Send all documents by Email first to ryugaku@office.tut.ac.jp for our confirmation, and send all documents by the postal mail later.
3. Certificates and other official documents must be issued from the university or officials. Photocopy of the documents cannot be accepted unless officially attested.
4. Application documents once we receive cannot be returned.


IV. Nonrefundable application fee: 30,000 yen*

Application fee of 30,000 yen must be paid before or at the same time when you submit the application without any lack or excess.

Those candidates wishing to enrol into the university only as a MEXT scholarship
students under the university recommendation shall be exempted from the payment.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. For the payment method of the application fee, please inquire at the International Affairs Division of the university before you submit.
2. Those wishing to enrol even if (s)he is not accepted as a Japanese Government Scholarship student should pay the application fee with other application documents.  3. Application will not be processed if the application fee is not received.

5. Method of selection

The selection will be carried out based on the documents.

6. Announcement of acceptance

The results of the selection will be notified to candidates by Email first, and successful applicants will receive the official result by postal mail later.
Result for the first deadline: End of March 2012. (*Final result for MEXT Scholarship will be announced in June or July 2012.)
Result for the second deadline: End of July 2012

7. Admission expenses

Admission fee: 282,000 yen
Tuition fee: 267,900yen (for the autumn semester from October to March)
*535,800 yen as a tuition fee will be necessary for one academic year.

Admission fee must be paid before the designated date the programme begins, and the tuition must be paid within the month of the programme starts.
In the case of a revision of the tuition fee, the new tuition fee will be applied from the time the revision has been made.

*Japanese Government Scholarship Students shall be exempted from the admission and the tuition fees.

9. Other Important Notes

(1) Application documents should be typed on A4 size paper. If you cannot type, please use black ink or a ballpoint pen to fill in by block letters.
(2) If the documents are not written in English, an English translation must be attached.
(3) Applications will not be considered if any of the documents are incomplete, incorrect, or lacking supporting evidence, nor will they be considered if they arrive after the deadline.
(4) Application materials (including application fee) once submitted become the property of the University Office and will not be returned. After the submission of documents, no changes will be accepted. If your contact address is amended, please report it immediately.
(5) Though supervision and instruction will be exclusively in English, successful applicants are strongly recommended to learn Japanese language for their daily lives.
(6) Notes for CDGDC Verifications (*Applicants graduated from Chinese universities only)

University Code: C901401
1) Verifications (for No. 3 and 4 of Application Documents for Admission) must be English and sent to Toyohashi University of Technology directly from CDGDC, within the application deadline. If the applicant receive it and redirect to the university, the verification would not be valid.
2) In the case the verification is not issued, or verification is invalid, the admission would be withdrawn.
3) The process must be checked by the web page ( http://www.cdgdc.edu.cn/rzgl/apply/newapply.jsp), without fail.
4) When the procedure is done on internet, please note the "Application Number" and "Password." These would be needed when you contact CDGDC.
5) It takes about 1 month until the university gets the verification. If the university cannot receive the verification within the deadline, your application might be withdrawn.
