   International House

International House provides accommodation for international students at the university. The maximum length of residence is one year. Please be aware that not all applicants can be accommodated, since the capacity of International House is limited.

   Student Dormitory "Kokusai-to"

The student dormitory "Kokusai-to" provides communal housing for both international and Japanese students of the Master's and Doctoral Programs. The period of stay in the dormitory is one year (maximum of two years).
Applications are received after the list of successful entrance examinees of the graduate programs is announced. Due to the increase of applicants every year, not all applicants can be accommodated. The total number of single rooms is 99 (approximately 33 rooms for international students)

   Private Housing
  1. Since private apartments are usually not furnished, you have to furnish your apartment with a bed, mattress, futon, pillows, chair, desk, refrigerator, TV,etc. by yourself.

  2. Housing rent is paid on a monthly basis (by the end of the month for the following month).

  3. You have to find a guarantor when you move into a private apartment. For the university to be your guarantor, you should first join the 'Comprehensive Renter's Insurance for Foreign Students Studying in Japan ".

  4. You will need approximately 5 months' rent when moving in:

Type of Fee Amount required Description
Deposit 1-2 months' rent Deposit to cover unpaid rent and facility repairs. The landlord may apply this deposit to repairs of premises and furnishings when the tenant moves out. The remaining balance is refundable to the tenant.
Key money 1-2 months' rent Payment made to the landlord when you rent a house or room. Not always charged. This fee is not refundable.
Real estate agent's fee 1 months' rent Intermediary fee paid to real estate agent.

   Public Housing

Public housing units has relatively cheap rates, but only a few rooms are available. They are located far from the university, which makes commuting difficult. You should only apply for a unit if your family is also in Japan.
